FIFe shows are a learning experience about the pet one has at home. It is an evaluation process where one is given valuable information from an internationally qualified judge. There are various classes one may enter one's pet into. Domestic cats as well as housecats are as warmly welcomed as are the pure bred cats.

What is needed to enter this prestigious event? The cat must have an up to date vaccination record, is healthy, well groomed, after all this is a beauty contest and must be friendly and outgoing. One does not have to be a member of Malta Feline Fanciers to enter the show. Please contact Mrs.Keely Carabott, the club Secretary, on 21 658078 to enter your cat and more information.

It is important to add that before a cat is admitted into the show Hall there is what is called vetting in. Each and every cat is thoroughly inspected by a qualified vet, as are the vaccination records. No cat with any contagious illness, fleas, ear mites is allowed in. Everything is done according to international standards.

Please note that this is not an exhibition of cats but a show where the exhibits are judged by international judges invited to Malta especially for this occasion at great expense.

The judges may disqualify anyone who has not bred cats according to the breed standard. This has happened in the past. Thus one is assured of the integrity of these shows.

Malta Feline Fanciers have had the pleasure of having a first FIFe International Champion - Harwood Malta, imported from the USA by Mrs.Connie Gauci de Brincat of Monella Perisians. This club has also had the pleasure of having the first Malta bred FIFe International Champion - Monella Ribello owned by Mrsi Charmaine Spiteri of Charwood Persians and bred by Mrs.Connie Gauci de Brincat. These two cats are on their way to becoming the first FIFe Grand Champions in Malta.

The end of the show is quite fun because there is a lovely ceremony where the nominated cats are grouped together to choose the Best In Show.

As this is an educational activity most children will love the friendly atmosphere prevalent. Fife shows teach one and all how to take care of their pets. It is also a fascinating experience to see some lovely breeds such as Himalayans, Colourpoints, Sacred Birmans, Siamese and of course the favourite of all the Persian cat. One must not forget the Maltese cats, our domestic cats.

Mrs.Connie Gauci de Brincat would like to thank Ms.Loredana Aguis for inviting her on her programme Petplanet on Education 22 to speak about her favourite subject - cats. The programme is aired on Thursday at 7 pm. There are two repeat programmes on Friday at 1 pm and Sunday at 10 am. Among the various topics the presenter of Petplanet discusses with Mrs.Connie Gauci de Brincat are FIFe shows.
